Scott Cave Director of Finance and I.T. at KFR Services in Summerville, SC
For the past eight years he has managed the Finance and I.T. Departments as the company

four distinct operating divisions. Since 2000 he has managed the corporate business
continuity plan and received certification in 2006 as a business continuity planner. Two

planning committee chairman for the Chamber's Business Continuity Planning Council.
Topic: Business Continuity
Planning: Tips and Resources for Protecting Your Business.
Today's businesses are faced with an ever growing list of potential threats to their
operations: natural disasters, utility outages, I.T. systems availability, pandemic flu,
terrorism, and many others. In fact, one in four small businesses will experience a
significant business disruption in any given year. Businesses need a plan to survive these
events and they disruptions they cause, whether it is a large scale event such as an
earthquake or hurricane or the day-to-day events like utility outages and I.T. downtime.
This presentation was developed by the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce's Business
Continuity Planning Council to educate local businesses about the details of a business
continuity plan, what's typically included in a Plan, and the resources provided by the
Chamber to assist you in your planning efforts.

Preparing for
Earthquakes and Hurricanes
Thursday, July 31,
2008
11 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. (lunch provided)
Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce
The Charleston region is extremely
susceptible to damage from both hurricanes and earthquakes. One in four businesses will
experience a crisis each year. How can you make sure your business will survive? Creating
and implementing a business continuity plan will help strengthen your business operations
and reduce the risk to your company.
The Chambers Business Continuity Planning Council will host a workshop to assist
companies on creating and implementing a business continuity plan. Attendees will be
provided a sample business continuity plan that they can take back to their company and
use as a guide to begin creating their own plan. By creating a plan, you can ensure the
safety of your employees; know what will happen to your equipment and important files, and
also what the next steps you should take after the disaster to get your business back up
and running. The workshop will also include a panel discussion of case studies of local
businesses that have implemented business plans. Attendees will hear about their
experiences and lessons learned in creating a business continuity plan.
This workshop is a great opportunity for businesses to learn how they can minimize the
negative effects a disaster can have on their company by creating a business continuity
plan. Anyone that is interested in sustaining their business should attend.

Topic: Prenatal Project Care Abstract
This session has received top marks every time it has been given, and in fact it was the
top rated presentation at last years Atlanta PDD. If you have not attended the
Prenatal Project Care session before, be sure to attend the expanded workshop version this
year!
This topic is simple
it is about how to improve the chances for any project to
succeed by setting the project team off on the right track at the start! Its about
how to move a project from conception (idea), to birth (kickoff), to adulthood
(completion) successfully by providing the project team with an appropriate foundation,
even before the projects life is often formally recognized.
Its never too early to get the project team together!
We call this method, Prenatal Project Care, for it is best applied shortly
after project conception, and certainly prior to project birth!
You will learn the importance of getting everyone on the same page, and learn how to
illustrate project management concepts using games, videos, and activities that anyone can
relate to. Most of all, you will have fun and learn the importance of bringing fun into
every project.
